Programs and Enrollment

Enrolling Now!

For over three decades, Kids Count has been providing the highest quality childcare and early education in the Baton Rouge area. We offer fulltime care for children from 6 weeks of age up to 4 years old. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 6:30am until 6pm. We are located in Mid-City, off of Government Street near Jefferson Highway, but we have children and families that come from all over the city.

At Kids Count, we implement a comprehensive approach to early learning focused on "the whole child" (social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development). We provide a safe, warm, loving environment, where children are encouraged to explore and learn through play. We build on a standardized curriculum to incorporate elements of several different hands-on learning methods in order to provide children foundations that will prepare them to excel in elementary school and beyond. Lesson plans are drafted by each teacher and tailored to the needs and abilities of each class. We offer small class sizes so that each child gets the individual attention they deserve and we work closely with families and caregivers to make our center feel like an extension of home.

Most of our children go on to one of a handful of nearby private elementary schools after graduation from Kids Count. With this in mind, we work closely with those schools and administrators to ensure that our children are well prepared if not already meeting the learning objectives and milestones expected of them at those institutions. KC parents find that their children have already been exposed to and in some cases, have grasped, many of the new concepts introduced in elementary school and teachers report to us that our graduating students come to them well-socialized and often present as leaders in their elementary school classrooms.

Due to high demand, Kids Count enrolls students on a full-time basis and maintains a limited waiting list based on anticipated openings and availability.

In addition to our fulltime, year-round program, Kids Count also offers a popular summer program option (Camp KC) as a supplement to families seeking a fun-filled day camp experience for their children during the summer when local elementary schools and other programs are not in session.

Camp KC is action-packed with theme weeks, daily camp activities, games, arts and crafts, special guests, celebrations and much, much more! Camp KC is offered to all enrollees of Kids Count during the summer months and is open to other families and children ages 6 weeks to 4 years old based on availability. This year, we are proud to announce Camp KC's partnership with St. James Episcopal Day School Summer Camp Program!

The summer program runs on a weekly basis throughout June and July, and into the first week of August. Summer program enrollees may choose to enroll in a half day program (8 am - 12:30 pm; $200/week), full day program (8 am - 4:00 pm; $250/week) or our extended program (6:30 am - 6 pm; $300/week). There is a non-refundable $50 registration fee to enroll and a $50/week deposit due at the time of registration if not paying in full.

No lunch packing required! Unlike most summer camps in our area, Camp KC has a full-time chef onsite and therefore, meals are provided for children ages 1 and up. These include: Breakfast Snack (for those arriving before 9 am), Lunch, Afternoon Snack, and Evening Snack (Extended Hours Enrollees). Camp KC tuition also includes diapers and wipes for our little campers.

Weekly camp activities vary based on age but even our littlest campers get to enjoy the festivities and special summer celebrations all summer long!

Our Spanish, Soccer, and Tumble Bus Programs (age permitting) continue throughout the summer, as well.

Our Story

Parents

We are a small, family-run business that aims to provide precisely what we are looking for as parents – the highest quality childcare in a warm and nurturing environment where our children feel safe and excited to learn and play, and where their parents/guardians are assured that they are safe, stimulated and happy. We know firsthand how vital childcare is to the Baton Rouge community.

Our founder, Ms. Toni Turnley graduated from LSU in Early Childhood Education. Her passion for young children and educational background led her to open Kids Count in 1986 with a goal in mind that mirrors our own - When you can't be there, we are. Under her leadership, Kids Count has grown to encompass a 10,000 sq. ft. facility built for the sole purpose of facilitating the growth and development of generations of children and providing support to their families. Kids Count meets the industry’s highest level of standards to foster physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of their children. Kids Count has truly lived up to its mission of providing the highest quality preschool in the area, and we intend to carry on the legacy she has created.
